The Cape Country Unplugged has it’s origins in the Cape Country MTB Tour which was started in 2012 by Johan Kriegler of MTB Adventures. The event was characterized by it’s laid back vibe, great camaraderie, amazing non technical routes and was experienced by all as being more of a journey than a ride. It ended in Knysna the day before the annual Knysna Oyster festival which enabled the riders to compete in the events associated with the festival.
The event was limited in size due to overnight accommodation restrictions along the route and the last tour was held in 2015.
In 2017 Albert de Bruijn contacted Hans Degenaar to partner him in revitalising the Cape Country MTB Tour. They decided to name it the Cape Country Unplugged, epitomizing the laid back nature of the event without compromising on the basic necessities needed to make such a journey an experience to remember.
