The 50K a Day Fatbike Challenge started off by pure chance. Wild TV Africa became the media and TV partner for the Man vs Beast event between Alexander Bay and Cape Town. Group CEO, Dewald Visser, decided to join the two Ultra Marathon athletes and 3 horse riders on this epic journey. Only difference is he will be on a Fatbike, following the race to Cape Town as a solo rider, getting some great footage as part of the TV production.
Not even a weekend warrior, by his own standards, the 50 km per day for 16 days in a row, will prove to be the ultimate challenge for the 46 year old adventure and outdoor lifestyle enthusiast.
The Inaugural 50K a day Fatbike Challenge will commence on 1 December 2015, deep in the restricted diamond mining area of Alexander Bay in the Northern Cape, and will finish a gruelling 800km down the coast in Bloubergstrand on 16 December 2015.
The back-up crew will travel with 4×4 vehicles just off the beach and set up rest areas and overnight spots for the athletes. This is a camping adventure with no running water or any form of electricity. Outdoor cooking and braai will be the main source of cooking with a perfect view of the ocean and the spectacle of stars in the night sky.
The 50K a Day television production will be broadcast on Wild TV Africa in January 2016, for more details visit www.wildtvafrica.com.
All the funds raised by the 50K a Day and the Man vs Beast Challenge will be donated to these two charities:
