If you live in the Mother City, you’ll no longer have to trek up to the Highveld or Lesotho to engage in altitude training. You can now book into a high altitude induced environment in the heart of Constantia and enjoy the benefits of training in a rarefied atmosphere. Bike Plus, in the High Constantia Centre on the corner of Constantia Main and Groot Constantia Roads, is opening a simulated altitude training centre in February 2014. Using the British Cycling endorsed Watt-bike, which is developed to replicate the sensation of ‘real’ cycling; you can enjoy benefits like enhanced athletic performance, improved recovery and preparation for trips to high altitude. Look out for Mike Posthumus’ column on altitude training in the January issue. And for more info on Bike Plus go to www.bikeplus.co.za.
