DE RUST FUTURA WELCOMES MOUNTAIN BIKE DONATION FROM FNB WINES2WHALES AND PPA

The De Rust Futura School in Grabouw (Western Cape) recently received a welcomed donation of 22 mountain bikes complements of the organizers of the much loved FNB Wines2Whales (W2W) Mountain Bike (MTB) Events and the Pedal Power Association (PPA).

“We are truly grateful to the organizers of the FNB W2W MTB Events and PPA for the stunning donation,” says Wandred Theunis, Principal of De Rust Futura School.  “The learners that will receive a mountain bike were chosen based on academic achievements and sporting interests.  We hope that this will serve as an incentive for all our learners.  Regular inspection of the mountain bikes will be conducted.  If at any point we feel that a bicycle is not being looked after, it will be confiscated and handed to a learner that deserves it.  I started mountain biking two years ago and am looking forward to joining our learners on rides.”

“We are thrilled that more young cyclists are being introduced to the joys of cycling through this initiative,” says PPA chairman Steve Hayward. “The Pedal Power Association regularly partners with organisations and entities in support of cycling-related projects like this one. We trust that these bicycles will be put to great use, not only on the mountain bike trails that PPA recently sponsored on the Paul Cluver Estate and in the neighbourhood, but even on the BMX track that PPA sponsored a year or two ago on the Thandi Estate. We also certainly hope to see them at some PPA funrides in the near future.”

According to FNB W2W MTB Events Director, Johan Kriegler, the event is about cycling.  “We would like to assist schools in enabling wider sporting choices and are happy to be in a position where we are able to donate mountain bikes to the De Rust Futura School.  Our aim from the start has been to support the communities that are situated along the FNB W2W MTB routes.  Our long term goal is to promote interschool competitions where sections of the FNB W2W MTB routes will be utilized,” says Kriegler.
