A few things to bear in mind when you buy a multi-tools: the most expensive is not always the best – there are tools where you are paying for the brand name and fancy looking design – who cares what it looks like it’s stored away most of the time anyway. If you don’t use a tubby bag or a hydration bag where are you going to store it? This will influence the weight and size and there are some really clever options nowadays that can be stored in either your crank or handlebar. Having an integrated chain breaker is a complete win! Finally check if you can use it practically – this is mainly a concern if you have big hands and can’t get to the tools or have small hands and there isn’t sufficient leverage with the chain breaker to use if properly. Another tip is check what material the body is made of or you could be in for a nasty surprise if the tool has got wet and when you finally need to use it, it’s rusted and impossible to open.
