Fedhealth MTB Challenge incorporates the best of Durbanville’s MTB Trails

Durbanville, Western CapeMountain bike (MTB) enthusiasts are in for a treat at the second annual Fedhealth MTB Challenge that will take place this coming weekend at the picturesque Meerendal Wine Estate.

“Mountain bike enthusiasts, families and friends can look forward to an action-packed weekend,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports.  “Our MTB festivities will kick off on Saturday, 03 September 2016 with the Fedhealth Kids MTB Events.  Junior MTB enthusiasts can choose between a 500m, 1.5km and 5km Fun Ride.  On Sunday, 04 September 2016 the more serious mountain bikers will get to enjoy the magnificent trails on offer in the Durbanville Winelands.”

“Durbanville is the centre of the Northern Suburbs MTB hub,” continues Meyer.  “The 2016 Fedhealth MTB Challenge route incorporates the best of the famous Tygerberg MTB trails, including routes that are normally closed to the general public.  Entrants can look forward to a special MTB experience that includes magnificent views of the ocean, Robben Island and Table Mountain.  The changing of the seasons will also add to the ambiance with the route currently boasting with various shades of yellow and green.”

Saturday, 03 September 2016Fedhealth Kids MTB Events

Start Time: 13:00
Event: 500m, 1.5km and 5km Fun Rides
Entry Fee: R70

Sunday, 04 September 2016Fedhealth MTB Challenge

65km Fedhealth MTB Challenge

Start Time: 08:00
Entry Fee: R300 per rider (excludes CSA License)
Who can do this event? The more experienced mountain biker that was not put off by winter weather conditions or who at least spent some time on the indoor trainer.
What can riders look forward to? Entrants will experience the best Tygerberg trails in the area including Hoogekraal as well as brand new trails on Welvergenoegd and Meerendal.
Number of Water Points: X3
Route Director’s advice: This is a challenging ride for the more experienced moutain biker.  Leave something in the tank for the infamous quarry climb before the end.

35km Fedhealth MTB Challenge

Start Time: 08:30
Entry Fee: R200 per rider (excludes CSA License)
Who can do this event? Although easier than the 2015 event, riders still need a bit of fitness in the legs. 
What can riders look forward to? A really nice loop with all the less technical sections of the Tygerberg MTB trails.
Number of water points: X1
Route Director’s advice: Do not start too fast.  Remember 35km should be an enjoyable experience.  Leave the racing to the young guns.

15km Fedhealth MTB Challenge 

Start Time: 09:00
Entry Fee: R150 per rider
Who can do this event? The route is ideal for novice riders
What can riders look forward to experiencing? Easy riding with one longish climb.
Number of Water Points: X1
Route Director’s advice: Relax there is really nothing to fear on this route.  Ride within your capabilities.

Fedhealth Kids entries will receive a medal at the finish, a sweet treat and a Fedhealth branded gift.

Fedhealth MTB Challenge entries (15km, 35km and 65km) will receive:

  • Access to the Bokomo Breakfast Zone
  • A medal to all finishers
  • The first 1000 entrants will receive a stunning event t-shirt
  • A Fedhealth massage (this will work on a first come first serve basis)
  • An awesome Fedhealth branded gift
  • Trophies and prize money for overall winners in the 35km and 65km only.
