Glacier by Sanlam has announced its investment in the growth of the Storms River Traverse, one of South Africa’s more unique mountain bike stage races, by confirming its title sponsorship of the 2016, 2017 and 2018 events.
“We are very pleased to rekindle our partnership with the Glacier Storms River Traverse,” said Anton Raath, chief executive of Glacier by Sanlam.
“Mountain biking continues to grow in popularity amongst our target market and this event provides the perfect platform for us to interact with clients and financial intermediaries alike. The three-day event also has a strong family focus and promises to be a fun week-end for all,” says Raath.
The three-day event will once again be based at the Tsitsikamma Village Inn, a family-orientated country hotel that’s built around a ‘village square’, one of the most comfortable race villages of any mountain bike stage race. The race will start on Saturday 6 August 2016 and finish on Monday 8 August. Tuesday 9 August is the annual Women’s Day public holiday.
The event has an entry limit of 250 participants and has categories for two-rider teams and solo entrants. The limited size allows the Storms River Traverse to have a personal atmosphere and the single-location makes it logistically kind as well as ideal for riders to bring their families.
Glacier by Sanlam is a division of financial services giant Sanlam, which services intermediaries and clients. The company offers a wide range of financial solutions designed to assist clients to create and preserve their wealth. These solutions include local and international investments, pre-and post-retirement solutions, stockbroking, as well as comprehensive short-term insurance and risk cover for both personal and business assurance.
“We’re excited to have Glacier by Sanlam on board as a title partner of the Storms River Traverse. After five seasons, the event has become well established and while we can’t grow the numbers, we will, with Glacier by Sanlam’s support, be able to grow the quality of the experience,” said Henco Rademeyer of Dryland Event Management, the company that owns and organises the Glacier Storms River Traverse.
“There are so many mountain bike stage races to choose from these days and we feel that we need to offer something different at our events. We’ve already got the committed racing market covered with our other mountain bike races, such as the Cape Pioneer Trek, Fairview Attakwas Challenge and DUTOIT Tankwa Trek, so we intend to build the Glacier Storms River Traverse into one that continues to appeal to the family-orientated mountain biker looking for an enriching excursion in a beautiful part of the country,” added Rademeyer.
Ranging from 40-70km in distance, the stages at the Storms River Traverse are relatively short, and take participants through some of the most scenic coastline and indigenous forest on the world-famous Garden Route.
