HAYWOOD EXCITED TO TAKE ON THE PENNYPINCHERS ORIGIN OF TRAILS

Amidst frantic wedding preparations, well-known South African actress and TV presenter Vanessa Haywood is still managing to keep her cycling calendar up to date and has entered the second annual Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails 2-Day Mountain Bike Stage Race, that will take place in Stellenbosch on Friday, 28 November and Saturday, 29 November 2014, one month after her marriage to ultra-marathon runner, Ryan Sandes.

“I missed the inaugural event last year because I was away.  I was so bummed because I heard it was great,” says Haywood.  “I love riding in Stellenbosch and now have a great excuse to get out there and train on those beautiful trails.  I like the challenge that the sport of mountain biking presents.  I love pushing myself and seeing my riding improve over time.  I am crazy about stage racing particularly because of the social aspect.  I can’t wait to experience new trails and meet interesting people”.

“The whole wedding/race schedule thing has been a bit tricky,” laughs Haywood.  “I can’t do too many races before the wedding due to possible injury.  A black eye or roastie isn’t the best bride look.  I also don’t have enough time to train as the wedding is almost a full time job.  It is nuts!  This is also why I have opted to do the 40km race and not the 70km race.  So I am planning most of my racing for after the wedding and am really looking forward to it”.
