Garmin Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd., announce the Forerunner 920XT, a multisport GPS watch which can record detailed metrics for swimming, biking and running. Its slim profile and hinged watch bands offer a comfortable fit, and its high-resolution colour display makes it easy to view stats at a glance during training and race day. With advanced features that include running dynamics, VO2 max and recovery estimates1, live tracking2 and smart notifications2 the Forerunner 920XT is qualified to take athletes’ training to the next level. It even has a daily activity tracking feature which is ideal for wearing all day to monitor steps and calories burnt.
“As a pioneer and leader in the GPS market, we are excited to introduce our most advanced all-in-one solution for triathletes and multisport athletes, the Forerunner 920XT” says Walter Mech, CEO of Garmin Southern Africa. “The GPS multisport watch can record in-depth metrics and data for swimming, cycling and running and also track athlete’s daily activity, while keeping them connected. The Forerunner 920XT is ideal for training, racing and everything in between.”
Exceptional Display and Connected Features
The Forerunner 920XT has a sleek design with flexible hinged watch straps for a comfortable fit and is 18% lighter and 15% thinner than its predecessor, the Forerunner 910XT. Its high-resolution colour screen, displays data from a daily activity tracking feature including steps taken, distance, calories burnt, a countdown to a personalised daily goal and an audible alert to encourage you to move after being inactive for one hour. Triathletes can use the activity tracking feature to monitor their activity and sleep patterns during rest periods between training sessions.
Athletes can automatically upload workouts to the Garmin Connect Mobile app on a smartphone using Bluetooth technology or Wi-Fi hot spots. With Garmin Connect athletes can start a LiveTrack session allowing invited family and friends to follow along in real time during training or on race day. It also keeps users connected with smart notifications of incoming SMS’s, email, call, calendar reminders and more when in range of a paired Bluetooth smart device2. Athletes can also use the Forerunner 920XT as a remote for their VIRB or VIRB Elite action camera3 and start or stop recording and take stills right from their wrist.
In the Water
The Forerunner 920XT has a water rating of 5 ATM4 offering athletes advanced swim metrics for training in a pool or open water. The Forerunner 920XT includes two types of rest timers to keep time, pushing off the wall and features distance alerts to let users know a set is over or time alerts to help them hold their pace. A drill logging allows athletes to easily log swim drills and sets at the pool, whilst recording swim distance, pace, stroke type, stroke count and SWOLF score.
On the Bike
Athletes can now own the road with the Forerunner 920XT’s advanced cycling features which include a built-in altimeter for precise ascent, descent and gradient data during training. The Forerunner 920XT is compatible with external sensors such as speed, cadence, heart rate and power meter for additional data. When paired with compatible ANT+ power meters, including Vector S and the dual-sensing Vector system, the Forerunner 920XT displays power data including average watts, left/right balance5, power zone and when also paired with a Heart Rate Monitor for training it can derive users’ VO2 max estimates for cycling to help monitor changes in fitness.
On the Run
Triathletes can measure and track their running form with Garmin’s advanced running dynamics, which are featured on the Forerunner 920XT when used with the HRM-Run monitor. Athletes can report cadence (total steps per minute), vertical oscillation (amount of “bounce” in a runner’s step) and ground contact time (how much time a runner’s foot spends on the ground during each step). The Forerunner 920XT will even show a colour gauge so athletes can compare their values to peers and vibration and audible alerts to guide cadence training, a race predictor based on VO2 max for running and a recovery advisor indicating how long a runner should rest before attempting another hard effort1.
For ultra-marathon runners, the Forerunner 920XT offers an UltraTrac mode that turns GPS off at certain intervals, extending its battery life from 24 hours in GPS mode to 48 hours.
The Forerunner 920XT is available in black/blue or red/white at a suggested retail price of R7 299 for the premium Heart Rate Monitor bundle.
