Ever rode behind the wheel of a stranger on the slopes of Table Mountain with a peculiar little straw hat dangling underneath his seat? You might have been fooled by his baggy shorts and laidback attitude at first, but after a few minutes of riding behind him, the chances are that you would have run out of talent on the downhill trying to keep up with him, or almost died catching your breath to keep up with his effortless climbing skills. Do not take it personally: he did the Lesotho Sky. Probably more than once. Like all of them do. If you find yourself in the vicinity of Table Mountain on the 5th of March, you’ll probably end up riding behind a number of dangling straw hats. This time round, you will miss out on a lot of fun (and a couple of ice cold Maluti lagers) if you cannot stay on their wheels.
Celebrating the 6th Lesotho Sky event and proving that it is more than just a stage race, the legendary event organisers Christian Schmidt and Darol “Paincave” Howes are visiting Cape Town and planning a relaxed +/- 20km ride on the trails of Table Mountain. The ride along starts (and finishes) at their good mate Nils Hansen’s Woodstock Cycleworks around 3pm. Anyone with a sense of adventure is welcome to join.
