Entries are open for the Lilyfontein Adventure Race scheduled for 2 and 3 September 2016. The race is in its 16th year this year. This multi-discipline event for teams of 4 or 2 attracts 400 participants from aged 7 up to 70. The event will be based around the East Coast Resorts Road, East London on 2 Sept (briefings) and 3 September (races start). It is also the regional qualifier for any schools teams wanting to go to the SA Schools Adventure Racing Championships.
Adventure Racing provides running, hiking, cycling, paddling and many more adventure-orientated challenges in a race format. Using a map and compass teams of 4 (or 2 in some categories) will navigate through several activities to reach specific check points along the way. Mental and physical fitness and team work will be tested like they’ve never been tested before! There are school categories for those wishing to qualify for the SA Schools Adventure Racing Championships, corporate categories for the serious adventurer and family/fun categories for those just wanting a taste of Adventure Racing.
Each year the team puts together at least 6 different routes. Each is unique and offers its own variety of terrain and scenery and is only available to participants of the Adventure Race. The aim is to expose people to the sport of Adventure Racing and to promote our local East Coast Resorts area.
