The MYSPAR MTB CLASSIC & FUN FARM RUN was held on 1st May on the picturesque Zuurbron farm on the R330 between Hankey & Humansdorp. Close to 1 000 people were once again treated to a perfect autumn’s day of participation & spectating at this extremely popular event that now rates amongst the best and most beautiful MTB events in the Eastern Cape. There was no lack of choice for the entire family with tailor made mountain bike routes, catering to all skill levels (60km, 35km, 25km, 10km) as well as a 10km Fun Farm Run on offer.
With jumping castles, food stalls, face painting, sand art & lucky draw prizes galore, race founder & Director, Jacques Steenkamp worked hard at ensuring the entire family could spend a fun-filled morning on his farm and judging from the comments received everyone did just that!!!
The 60km was won by Jason Meaton in a time of 2.21.24 followed by Paddy Fischer (2.26.35) and Nick Cape (2.34.29). Jason was chased hard by Paddy and Nick until 20km to go, when he put the hammer down. Coming over the finish line, looking fit and strong, one can hardly believe he’d just completed a tough 60km. This is what Jason had to say “A very entertainable ride with a bit of everything, views are beautiful, the course is well marked and the race well supported – I love it!!”
Liza Mason had an easy victory to take the lady’s title in a time of 2.56.26 with Jeffreys Bay local Melissa Swanepoel finishing second (3.13.30) and 14year old Hannah Oelofsen 3rd (3.22.21).
