New MTB Tours Launched in Big Five Reserve

Toerboer is proud to announce the launch of private, guided mountain bike tours in the Mthimkulu Section of the Greater Kruger National Park. The Mthimkulu Section consists of 9 000ha of undeveloped wilderness and has open boundaries with the Kruger National Park. The area lies between the Little Letaba River and the Great Letaba River and includes the confluence; and Toerboer has exclusive rights to traverse this section with mountain bikes.

“The undeveloped nature of the area as well as the remoteness are two main attractions,” said Toerboer director Dawid de Wet. “And of course the occurrence of the Big Five.”

De Wet has nearly a decade of guiding experience in wilderness areas and confirmed that all tours will be guided by well-trained and highly experienced guides who are familiar with the territory and game.

In terms of the riding, various tour options ranging from a three-night leisure tour to a five-night expedition will be available to cater for a range of fitness and skill levels. “This combination of 4×4-tracks and game path – nature-cut singletrack – makes it an area ideal for mountain biking,” he commented.

Tours are fully-catered and accommodation is in the form of rustic dome tents with bedding provided. A warm water bush shower will await riders at the end of each day, “and bush toilets (pit latrine) further enhances the bush atmosphere,” said De Wet. All Luggage will be transported to the overnight camp by the back-up vehicle, so riders need to carry only spares and water bottles. Tours will run with a minimum of four clients and maximum of eight.
