Pretoria East Mountain bikers like to stay ahead of the game and be informed!
The second MTB info session took place at Land Rover Pretoria the 18th of May.
With guest speakers Mark Carrol from Cadence Cycling, Marcel de Wit from Set-It-Up, Dirk Cajada and Sean Badenhorst (Mr Tread) valuable information and updates were provided.
Pre-event Exhibitions was presented by Torq Zone Cycles, Lynnwood Cyclery and Singletrack Fuel.
As an internationally recognized mechanic training institution Dirk Oelermans and his team provided a few bike maintenance demonstrations and added valuable information on bike maintenance. Information on their Cytech Home Mechanic training courses that Torq Zone provides were also offered.
Lynnwood Cyclery (our own Specialized concept store in Pretoria) yet again provided something shweeeeet for the eye. With the latest range of beautiful and high quality range of Specialized bikes on display, one did not leave with some kind of scheme of maybe selling your car in order to obtain one of those beauties!
Vince van Vuuren of Singletrack Fuel and his team provided some tasting and info of their sports nutrition product range.
Yet again a great number of over 200 enthusiastic mountain bikers and cyclists contributed to the exciting vibe at Land Rover Pretoria.
Mark Carrol from Cadence Cycling provided more scientific and in depth information on their “customized” approach to indoor cycling with their addition of power meters on their bikes. Great feedback and results arose from the audience and it was certain that Cadence Cycling is living up to their name. Marcel de Wit from Set-It-Up informed everyone about the importance of proper bike setups and the necessity of a proper bike setup for preventing injuries and unnecessary gear or medical expenses. Dirk Cajada shared very interesting information on “bikepacking” as opposed to “backpacking” and some experiences of their recent trip in the Barberton area. He also brought his unique, fully kitted bike with and explained that he fitted a second rear wheel at the front of his bike to serve as a spare rear wheel…quite a nifty idea I would say. Mr. Tread, Sean Badenhorst shared valuable information on stage racing and his experiences, planning, preparation and lessons from the ABSA Cape Epic 2015.
With a Tread magazine in hand and all the great info provided, everyone that attended left with a bit more knowledge than when they arrived. It is great to be informed and to see that Pretoria East MTB is also giving back to the community doing out rides with the cycling groups in Mamelodi and also donating helmets, cycling lights and additional cycling gear to the latter. It all comes together and summarised in one word, “passion”.
Many thanks to Carl Scholtz who yet again took the lead and organized the great Pta East info evening!
