Stillwater Sports, the organisers of Stellenbosch’s iconic Savanna Origin of Trails MTB and Trail Run Experience has announced that both events, that were scheduled to take place in April, will move to 27 – 28 November 2021 due to the looming threat of a COVID-19 third wave.
“We are sad to announce that the Savanna Origin of Trails MTB and Trail Run Experience will not take place in April as originally planned,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the events. “We’ve been in lengthy discussions with the local municipality and Disaster Management Officials and unfortunately predictions indicate that the COVID-19 third wave will coincide with the event’s April date. To ensure the safety of mountain bikers, runners, staff and all external stakeholders, we have had to make this difficult decision.”
Meyer continues, “It’s never easy to cancel or postpone an event, but when it comes to the safety of all stakeholders it’s the only decision. November has always been a great month to host the Savanna Origin of Trails MTB and Trail Run Experience. It is the mountain bike and trail run “on route” party of the year after all. We are also very happy to give the iconic Jonkershoek Trail Network time to recover after the recent Boland fire. Mountain bikers and trail runners can look forward to closing off the year at the much-loved end of year “on route party” in November.”
April Event Refund Policy: Mountain bikers and trail runners that have entered the April event are requested to refer back to the event’s Refund Policy, herewith a direct link https://www.stillwatersports.com/event/origin-of-trails/ (Mountain Bike) and https://www.stillwatersports.com/event/origin-trails-trail-run/ (Trail Run). One of the options is to roll-over your entry to the November date.

The Savanna Origin of Trails MTB Experience is an individual 2-day MTB Stage Race. The routes highlight the beauty and splendor of Stellenbosch, and mountain bikers can look forward to experiencing a vast network of world-class trails while celebrating the origin of SA mountain biking.

Launched in 2018, the Savanna Origin of Trails Trail Run Experience will treat runners to the best trails on offer in Stellenbosch. Entrants can look forward to challenging, yet fun and rewarding routes with spectacular views.
