Since its launch in 2011, the STBB 2Keep-a-Breast MTB Challenge and Family Day has become known as one of the “must-do” MTB events on the calendar, a fact that we at STBB are very proud of!  What started as a small but enthusiastic challenge which attracted about 300 riders in 2011, has grown to such a degree that we were forced to cap our entries at 1,500 in 2014.  Our routes are enjoyable yet challenging and very well marked, our marshals are on the ball, we have the best water tables in the industry, and we have it on good authority that ours is one of the best organised MTB races in South Africa.  Our generous sponsors are once again providing an impressive selection of unbelievable prizes this year, both to distance winners, as well as lucky draw winners.

But this is so much more than just a charity mountain biking event; it is a fun day out for riders’ families and friends too.  After the race we have Bedouin chill out tents for your comfort where riders can rest their weary legs, meet up with friends and family, eat, relax and enjoy the view.  There will also be a spectacular food market (which gets rave reviews every year) offering a wide range of delicious meals, artisan beers and wine tasting.  We even organise activities to keep the children entertained, such as arts and crafts and a jumping castle.  Bring your friends and family along for a fun day in a stunning setting!

About breast cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women.  A woman can develop breast cancer at any time during her adult life, even as early as her late twenties.  One out of ten women in South Africa will develop the disease – high odds indeed.  But as more women have mammograms, and with increased awareness and education on the topic, rates of detection are increasing.

While breast cancer treatments are improving and becoming more successful all the time, our best weapons are still early detection and education, which is why the STBB 2Keep-a-Breast MTB Challenge aims to encourage people to educate themselves and their loved ones about breast cancer and to spread a message of hope and encouragement in a positive, fun and healthy way.

Feeling like a victim means feeling helpless, not knowing what to do.  Well, you can do THIS! Enter the STBB 2keep-a-breast MTB Challenge, or just come along and enjoy the day with us – this is a really fun way to make a difference!

To educate yourself further on the facts of breast cancer, and to learn how to self-examine your breasts, visit the CANSA website at www.cansa.org.za.

Better yet, book your mammogram TODAY … a mammogram can detect cancer years before you can!

About the setting

Bottelary Hills MTB Trails were opened by the Bottelary Hills Renosterveld Conservancy (BHRC) in April 2011. The trails facilitate organised riding in the area and serve as a much needed source of funds for BHRC to further its conservation efforts.

BHRC encloses the Bottelary Hills situated near Stellenbosch, approximately 40km East of Cape Town. The hills are home to several endangered fauna and flora species.  Concerned land owners, together with Cape Nature (www.capenature.co.za) looked at various options to protect the remaining vegetation, rehabilitate sensitive areas and reintroduce species lost to the area.  This lead to the eventual formation of the Bottelary Hills Renosterveld Conservancy. (www.bottelaryconservancy.co.za)

The unique terroir of the area lends itself to growing grapes of the highest quality. It’s no coincidence that BHRC is home to many well known wine estates famous for producing world class wines.

All the trails are on private land with permission from the landowners and cover as many as 22 wine farms. The trails are varied and appeal to riders of all capabilities. The hallmark of the trails is the scenic beauty and incredible views of the Winelands, Table Mountain, False Bay and other surrounding areas.
