Hey guys! So good to be able to write to you guys again!
Well, that’s a wrap for my racing season in Europe. I had such a good time with my team racing the world cups this year, but it has been a tough season with the level being so high and the tracks being so difficult.
I had some bad luck at the world champs in Les Gets, France with my pedal braking off in my qualifying run which meant I missed out on the qualies, thus not being able to represent South Africa in the final run. I was so bummed about that as it is always a massive honour to pull that jersey over my head. But bad luck happens sometimes and I guess you just have to deal with it, but I was still stoked to be there with the team and ride my special bike at that prestigious event.
The following week was the world cup finals in Val di Sole, Italy and that track is always insane. This year it was just a bit harder even and it was so tough to ride. You had to be insanely conditioned just to make it down in a full run let alone still race the track. To put it into perspective, there was an unusual amount of injuries under the top riders at that race and even Greg Minnaar who hardly crashes ended up breaking three vertebrae in his back!
However, I made it through in one piece and I am back home now. Wow, what an insane experience to be able to race those tracks with the fastest guys in the world.
Now that I am back home there are a couple of things lined up before this year is over. At the time of writing I am currently on the way to Nelspruit for the South African enduro championships where I will be defending my title from last year. I am looking forward to that as the trail is Mpumalanga always delivers and is some of the best around.
After the SA enduro I will be heading to Cape Town for another Western Cape Enduro race as well as the next Western Cape downhill race in October.
After all the races I will be having my big October youth camp at Bloemendal which I am looking forward to a lot! I will be riding with all the youngsters, helping them with skills and just showing them a good time on their bikes for three days during the school holidays!
I have been away a lot this year, traveling and racing. Hopefully after my youth camp I can spend some days at home and do some chilled rides as the off season starts.
That’s it from me. I wish all of you happy holidays and happy riding!
See you guys soon!
