The 2014 MTB World Champs in XCO, DHI and Trails takes place in the village of Hafjell near Lillehammer, Norway from the 2nd to the 7th of September. The village hosted the alpine skiing technical events (giant slalom and slalom) at the 1994 Winter Olympics and has been host to two successful World Cup legs in 2013 and 2014 at its HafjellBikePark.
The South African XCO contingent is weaker for the loss to injury of Mariske Strauss, though James Reid and Rourke Croeser will undoubtedly be giving it their all. James in particular has been just off the podium on a couple of occasions this year, so hold thumbs for him to take it a step further when it matters the most.
In the downhill division Andrew Neethling will be looking to repeat or better his third place the last time the DHI show rolled into Hafjell for the UCI MTB World Cup race there in 2013. But the main South African focus will be on defending double DHI World Champion, Greg Minnaar. Do we dare hope for a threepeat?
